We all know renting can be like walking through a minefield, particularly in a big city, as you have to battle other prospective tenants to pay sky-high rent for a small space.
Many believe landlords and owners are notorious for maximizing profit however they see fit, and one woman may have captured a prime example of cutting corners when she moved into her new pad.
Aubriously214 shared a clip to TikTok of her new place, as she films a set of white shelves that appear normal at first.
But Aubriously214, thought to be from Charleston, South Carolina, reaches for the shelf and lifts up a white box, which turns out to be a packet of raisins which has had a coat of paint slapped on it.
And she next picks up a candy bar which has also been shockingly painted over, with the fun-size Milky Way white on one side.
Underneath both packets you can see the wood’s natural color, another indication the paint job wasn’t entirely professional.
“The handymen at my apartment spray-painted over the previous tenant’s snacks,” Aubriously214 captioned the clip, shared on Saturday, which can be seen here.
It’s been watched more than 2 million times, as people made numerous jokes about the painting skills of the handymen.
“He got paid to paint, not to clean. I bet the landlord tried to cut costs and just hire him hoping he’d do everything,” Hettie wrote.
While @s.shoup joked: “Those were load bearing raisins.”
Rachel Gibson reckoned: “I bet they kept the previous tenant’s deposit for ‘cleaning’ too.”
“It would have required so little effort to remove that stuff,” Mary Bruce 689 thought.
Plasma Whorrroshow advised: “Definitely make sure to send this clip to your landlord so they cannot hold you accountable for the lack of paint in those areas.”
“This is equal parts terrible and hilarious,” Hippos Can’t Swim thought.
Big Fat Meanie added: “Reminds me of the painted over roaches in the kitchen cabinets of my old apartment.”
Bugs being painted over seems to be a common theme among landlords and tenants, after a renter shared a clip of her kitchen to Twitter, showing a roach beneath a splash of paint.
A woman called Chelsea, whose account is known as @chellzyeah, uploaded a image to the site, showing the insect’s splayed legs and antenna.
“My landlord painted over a f**king roach,” she captioned the image, which amassed more than 361,000 likes since being shared in September.
Newsweek reached out to Aubriously214 for comment.
