This subway station holds a unique distinction in the world of public transportation hubs. The station was built in 1983 with marble from the Apuseni Mountains in Western Romania.
Hundreds of people pass through this station every day, but barely anyone takes the time to look down at the floor and notice a peculiar sight. In the marble that composes the floor of the station, visitors will be treated to countless fossils known as rudists.
These fossils are about 80 million years old, from the late Jurassic to late Cretaceous period, and are very well preserved. The patterns and shapes are all unique and diverse. Sometimes, geology professors from the University of Bucharest take their students on field trips to the station where they hold lessons about fossils.
