One of the most rigorous climbs in the Caribbean is to the top of Mount Scenery, Saba, at 887 meters or nearly 3,000 feet above sea level. The national park trail takes climbers to the highest point of the island, which is also the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The steep, and sometimes slippery path due to tropical moisture, is a challenging 1000-step ascent to the top with views on clear days of neighboring St. Barts, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, and St. Martin. Travel across streams, through various vegetation from farm to cloud forest.
The unassuming trail, near the Windward side, is roughly two miles roundtrip, but plan for at least a couple hours of trekking to take in the rainforest, flora, and fauna, and to give yourself time to take in some extra air on the journey.
