At the junction of Nożownicza and Więzienna Street, visitors will find a building that dates to the Middle Ages. It happens to be the old city prison. The structure is one of the oldest buildings in the city and was built in the middle of the 14th century.

The former main prison rooms were located in the cellars, people of low status as well as the most dangerous criminals were imprisoned there. In the cellars of the eastern wing, where interrogations took place, is now occupied by a pub.

The building ceased being a  prison at the turn of the 18th & 19th centuries. Today it houses a café & souvenir shop as well as others.
