This site is occupied by Bocairent's tourism service as an interpretation center for the nearby Covetes del Moros and provides information on the other rock window sites in Valencia's Clariano valley.
Covetes del Colomer started as a group of individual Berber granaries cut by hand, into the rock by individual families in the era of the Muslim occupation before the 12th century. In the 16th century, the granary caves were modified into stables by joining together the individual granaries, raising the ceilings, and increasing the size of the windows.
You may also hear of the legend of the formation of St Vincent's spring, which says that the water flow started when the saint wrung out his wet cloak whilst sheltering in the shallow cave in a rainstorm. The cave is only small but fascinating from both points of view.
