Visitors strolling along Wellington's iconic waterfront walkway should keep their eyes peeled. The public path, which hugs the harbor, is adorned by 23 plaques inscribed with quotes, phrases, and poems from New Zealand novelists, authors, and playwrights.
The inscriptions can be found underwater, inscribed on wooden deck boards, and hidden on the underside of a pier. The words are tributes to the city and include quotes from notable New Zealand writers such as Katherine Mansfield, Maurice Gee, and Barbara Anderson. The inscriptions are designed by typographer Catherine Griffith, and architect Fiona Christeller.
